AUGUSTIN CIN SIMONI, Violinist Bachelor of Music (Violin) (With Honors) Was born in Shkoder, an Albanian city well known for its cultural and intellectual traditions. He took piano lessons at 9 years of age and then, at 11 years old began violin studies. At the age of 14 he won the prize at the National Festival of Young Artists. Later on he continued his musical studies in Tirana. At first, he worked as violinist with the Albanian Philharmonic Orchestra and later he was appointed concertmaster of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Albanian Radio and Television (OSRTSH), a position he held for several decades until he left Albania in 1990. Augustin has played violin as a soloist with the OSRTSH and in many recitals with piano. He was awarded with prestigious prizes and titles. Augustin lives in Toronto, Canada for two decades where he actively continues his musical career. He has played with the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra and in several chamber music concerts and piano recitals. In Canada he has recorded two CDs with works for violin and piano of international composers and one CD with violin piano pieces of prominent Albanian composers. The latest CD titled “Albanian Composers” is the first CD ever, with Albanian work, included in the collection of CBC Radio Canada which is made available for airing to all producers across Canada. In the context of cooperation with the Association of Albanian Musicians Abroad Augustin has been invited more than once to perform on the Albanian stages. One of the successful debuts of this initiative was Bethoven’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, played with the OSRTSH, and conducted by prominent orchestra conductor, Eno Koco. Augustin continues his teaching career since the year 1975 to the present. He has been teaching, for more than fifteen years, at the Toronto Faculty of Music. Augustin has been interviewed by a number of Albanian TV channels, radio stations and newspapers in Albania and here in Canada and special programming about his career and contribution to the community has been aired, followed by several articles. Augustin is awarded with the “Greater Teacher” award at the RH Scholarship 2017 event in Toronto and with the “Albanian-Canadian Excellence Award” by the ACE Society in Toronto, in the year 2017.
