Director

Hello everyone,

It is Vadim Koltsov, the director of Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. And I am here to update you on the latest news and what we have prepared for you while online. Moving online might not be the best news but we keep it positive and look forward to returning to in-person lessons soon.

Over time, we’ve created a great system that allows us to teach music lessons remotely. Our teachers are highly experienced, have run online classes for almost two years, and always ensure the highest level of engagement with students. The great news is that no matter what, we are moving forward and working on keeping our students engaged and busy even during the lockdown time. So now, here is what we’ve prepared for you to make your stay at home more enjoyable.

We’ve created a lot of additional content and activities during past lockdowns. Our free Masterclasses were a hit and very popular. This time we came up with Cabin Fever Busters, a Facebook group that contains various free and fun lesson videos and content, supplied by our teachers and teachers from several other music academies in Ontario. Every week we’ll post something new once or twice per day on various instruments. There are classes for different instruments, singing, music theory, music history, and more.

The objective is to help lighten the mood and offer your family something exciting and fun to help keep Cabin Fever at bay. So go ahead, join the group, enjoy free lessons created just for you and fill your day with fun and educational activities. You’ll find the link in the email we sent recently. Be sure to check your spam folder, and if for some reason you have not received your email, do not hesitate to contact us.

Another great project that we’ve been working on for a while is the Musical Ladder Festival created exclusively for the students who participate in the Program. The Musical Ladder System was created to continuously encourage music students to perform and grow in their lessons. Learning how to set goals is not just a valuable skill in music. It’s an essential skill in all aspects of life! The Musical Ladder Festival is an online event that provides valuable performance feedback from professional music adjudicators and world-class musicians.

Students submit video performances to be critiqued by professional musicians and receive feedback and acknowledgment for their hard work. There are no specific criteria on what music to perform. Choose your favourite piece or song, practice it, record it and submit it on the MLS website. The cost for participation is only 25 dollars. Registration is open as of January 3rd, 2022. You can find all the details and more on the Musical Ladder Festival website that was sent back in December, and if you haven’t received it, please make sure to contact us.

So get to practice, keep yourself busy, join our Cabin Fever Busters Facebook page, have your videos rolling, submit them for Musical Ladder Festival and, as always; we’ll see you at your next lesson.

Musical Ladder Festival - Submit Your Videos

We are super excited to announce a new and exclusive Musical Ladder Festival created for the students participating in the Musical Ladder System. We are the only school in Mississauga with the system and our students have the advantage to be the first to take part in the festival.

The Musical Ladder System was created to encourage music students to continuously perform and grow in their lessons. Learning how to set goals is not just a valuable skill in music. It’s an essential skill in all aspects of life!

The Musical Ladder Festival is an online event designed to provide valuable performance feedback from professional music adjudicators and world-class musicians. The festival is exclusive to students who attend Musical Ladder System-affiliated music schools.

The festival is designed to provide music students with a formal platform to gain valuable performance feedback and work towards specific awards. This is similar to music juries offered in college and university music programs. Feedback from a professional can prove invaluable to your personal growth as a young musician.

Students submit video performances to be critiqued by professional musicians and receive feedback and acknowledgment for their hard work.

NOTE: Feedback sheets will include positive performance feedback as well as recommendations for improvement.

Students will receive awards for the following achievement levels:

•95% or above: First Class Honors Trophy, 1st Place Ribbon, Award Certificate, Feedback Sheet, Exclusive Musical Ladder Festival Wristband

• 90% or above: 1st Place Ribbon, Award Certificate, Feedback Sheet, Exclusive Musical Ladder Festival Wristband

•80% – 89%: 2nd Place Ribbon, Award Certificate, Feedback Sheet, Exclusive MusicalLadder Festival Wristband

•70% – 79%: 3rd Place Ribbon, Award Certificate, Feedback Sheet

•Up to 69%: Festival Ribbon, Feedback Sheet, Exclusive Musical Ladder FestivalWristband

Practice Challenge Trophy Winners

Practice champ winners

The Practice Challenge Program is one of the many highlights here at Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. Ensuring our students stay motivated is of utmost priority to us, and since the launch of this program last year we are proud to have seen so much progress! The program encourages students to practice through a series of six challenges, for which they earn wristbands. As an added incentive, any student that completes ALL six challenges will earn themselves a Practice Challenge Trophy!

Congratulations to our Practice Challenge Trophy Winners Ardene Jade M, Aarya P, Aahana P, Ayon K, Reyaansh D. You worked so hard and pushed your abilities to the limit to make this success happen. This amazing accomplishment is just one step on your musical journey. It is an incredible milestone and you deserve the spotlight to celebrate the moment.

We can’t wait to see more students participating in the program and looking forward to having many more Trophy winners this year. If you’d like to participate in the program check out our website HERE to find out more about each individual challenge.

Happy practicing!
